On Tuesday, March 31st, The Vatican released a new Mass setting titled "In Times of Pandemic" that falls under Mass for Various Needs. This happened pretty quickly and comes right after Pope Francis held an extraordinary Urbi et Orbi Blessing last Friday, March 27th. You can CLICK HERE to find articles about it as well you can watch the event which last about an hour.
Here is the Collect or opening prayer for today's Mass which is beautiful:
Almighty and eternal God,our refuge in every danger,to whom we turn in our distress;in faith we praylook with compassion on the afflicted, grant eternal rest to the dead, comfort to mourners, healing to the sick, peace to the dying, strength to healthcare workers, wisdom to our leadersand the courage to reach out to all in love, so that together we may give glory to your holy name.Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,God, for ever and ever.
For my Mass today, here are the readings that I used:
FIRST READING
It is good to hope in silence for the saving help of the Lord.
A reading from the Book of Lamentations (3:17-26)
My soul is deprived of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is; I tell myself my future is lost, all that I hoped for from the LORD. The thought of my homeless poverty is wormwood and gall; Remembering it over and over leaves my soul downcast within me. But I will call this to mind, as my reason to have hope:
The favors of the LORD are not exhausted, his mercies are not spent; They are renewed each morning, so great is his faithfulness. My portion is the LORD, says my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
Good is the LORD to one who waits for him, to the soul that seeks him; It is good to hope in silence for the saving help of the LORD.
The word of the Lord
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (4:35-41)
One day, as evening drew on, Jesus said to his disciples: “Let us cross to the other side.” Leaving the crowd, they took Jesus with them in the boat just as he was. And other boats were with him. A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already filling up. Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. They woke Jesus and said to him,“Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!” The wind ceased and there was great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?” They were filled with great awe and said to one another,“ Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?”
