40 DAYS and 40 CROSSES The “40 Day and 40 Crosses” Devotion is intended for Parishes to encourage bringing families together to pray the Stations of the Cross. We are looking for 40 families to lead this devotion. The lead family will find six other families so that the Cross will go from one house to another for the six weeks of Lent.
On the Sunday before Ash Wednesday, 40 Crosses are given out at the Masses. The Stations of the Cross is divided into seven days, praying two Stations daily for those who are really busy. Families can say all of the 14 Stations every day, as well. A prayer book will be given to all families. The Cross that is given out from the Parish is placed in an appropriate place in the house where all the members can gather to pray. Light two candles alongside of the Cross. At the end of each day’s prayer, a Bible verse is given for you to memorize. It is recommended that the family chooses a particular intention to pray for the entire week. For example: healing of a family member, spiritual renewal of the family, ability to reconcile with another family member, etc. This intention can be placed in writing under the foot of the Cross. On Good Friday, the lead family may invite all the families that participated in the event (and others) to pray a Rosary together at 2 pm, and then proceed to the church for the 3pm Service, bringing their Cross. At 2:50pm, all 40 lead families with their Crosses will process in silence to the Church (from an appropriate place) meditating on the mystery of Christ’s Passion and Death. The 40 Crosses can then be placed at a prominent place in the Sanctuary. A link to electronically sign up will be send it out via Flocknote. Way of the Cross from St. Elizabeth to St. Jules on LA 1 We will be placing 5-foot Crosses on the LA 1 starting from St. Elizabeth. The Crosses will be placed at every 0.3 miles. The total distance from St. Elizabeth to St. Jules is 4.8 Miles. To safeguard the crosses, they will be placed in our Parishioners’ yards. We hope these families will be able to spend at least ten minutes praying in front of the cross that is placed in front of their house. By Ash Wednesday, February 17, all the crosses will be in place. Families and individuals are encouraged to undertake walking from one station to the next, whenever you are able to. There will be a communitarian Way of the Cross on Saturday, March 6th, beginning at 6 am from St. Elizabeth Church. We encourage as many people as possible to walk and pray the stations of the cross. You can join this walking in the foot steps of Jesus even if you are not able to walk the whole distance. May His Name of Glorified Fr.Tomi
